Home Group Leader in Training (LIT) Ministry Description

Simple Description

Learn the role of a Home Group Leader and grow in your capacity and confidence to operate in that role so that you can eventually lead a group of your own and enhance the ministry capacity of New Song Church.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Help facilitate weekly home group meetings
  • Develop ability and gifting related to pastoral care and shepherding
  • Engage with your home group leader regularly
  • Gain understanding about NSC’s vision and philosophy of Home Group Ministry
  • Attend all LIT Trainings and Annual HG Summit
  • Be actively discerning if the role of a Home Group Leader fits with your gifting and is what God is calling you to
  • Maintain a life/lifestyle that honors the Lord

Details

  • Help facilitate weekly home group meetings
    • Learn from your HG leader how to successfully facilitate the weekly home group meeting
    • Start with areas of confidence and strength, then add in the aspects that you feel less confident in
  • Develop ability and gifting related to pastoral care and shepherding
    • Be proactive in reaching out to your home group members, both to check in on them and to follow up with them
    • Develop a variety of connection methods: in person, phone calls, texting, etc.
  • Engage with your home group leader regularly
    • Connect with your HGL on upcoming events and planning
    • Get their feedback on what’s going well and what isn’t in the group
    • Talk outside of HG about any issues or problems that need to be addressed
  • Gain understanding about NSC’s vision and philosophy of Home Group Ministry
    • Understand why NSC emphasizes home group ministry
    • Reasons behind: Sermon based questions, prayer time, LITs, multiplication, significant relationships
    • Learn how to advocate for NSC’s small group model and its benefits

Details

    • Start and End on Time, pray for the empty chair, have prayer time, build community, sermon-based questions
  • Provide front line care to home group members
    • Make your home group members a personal ministry priority (through continual prayer, care and quick response)
  • Always be looking for spiritual gifting that you can call out in your members
    • Find the gold, and do what you can to call it out, affirm it, nurture it
    • Always be looking for LIT and Host people who are gifted in those areas
  • Engage with your Home Group Coach regularly
    • Bring both life and ministry joys and struggles to them
    • Communicate testimonies and needs from your group to them
    • Inform them of any ministry ideas, pain points, or issues that you become aware of

Home Group Host Ministry Description

Simple Description

Host weekly home group meetings, spiritually prepare your space, and ensure that your home group members are comfortable and feel cared for while they are in your home.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide an adequate and comfortable meeting space for the home group
  • Spiritually prepare your home for home group ministry
  • Support the Home Group Leader
  • Attend Host Home Trainings and Annual Summit
  • Maintain a life/lifestyle that honors the Lord

Details

  • Provide an adequate and comfortable meeting space for the home group
    • Provide enough comfortable seating for all your group members
    • Make sure that the temperature and lighting in your home is comfortable
    • Be sensitive to your guests when it comes to:
      • Pet Hair and Pet Interactions
      • Strong Scents/Incense/Candles may affect some people negatively
  • Be welcoming and hospitable as people enter and leave your home
  • Refreshments
    • At a minimum, make sure that water is available for everyone
    • Optional: provide additional drinks or snack/food options
    • Optional: Delegate who brings a snack, or create a schedule for who brings snacks on which week
  • Spiritually prepare your home for home group ministry
    • Pray over your home and meeting space before every home group meeting
      • Ask the Lord to bless the space and the time that you all will spend together
      • Pray against the agendas of the enemy that would hinder meaningful relationships during your meeting
    • Optional: Play worship music before the group meeting, and consider having it on very low volume during the HG meeting
  • Support the Home Group Leader
    • Speak positively about your home group leader
    • Disagreements or decision making should take place before or after the home group meeting, not during
    • Be an affirming voice that encourages the home group members to follow the leading of your home group leader
  • Attend Host Home Trainings and the Annual Summit
    • Be ready to share testimonies of how you see the Lord working in your group
    • Have an understanding of how and why NSC facilitates home group ministry and be able to articulate that to others
  • Maintain a life/lifestyle that honors the Lord

Home Group Coach Ministry Description

Care for, connect with, and Coach the Home Group Leaders so that they can care for their home group members well.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide coaching and care for 3 to 5 home group leaders
  • Coordinate with CLO board to provide effective and healthy needs-based training and meeting agendas for HGLs
  • Engage in strategic follow up with HGLs for tasks, events, and ministry priorities
  • Gather testimonies and feedback from the HGLs and HG Members to help the leadership assess the health of the home group ministry
  • Have a good understanding of, and advocate for, the structure and strategy of the Home Group Ministry
  • Maintain a life/lifestyle that honors the Lord

Details

  • Provide coaching and care for 3 to 5 home group leaders
    • Make HGLs a personal ministry priority, honoring them with thoughtful and quick responses to needs and questions
  • Communicate with CLO board to help provide effective and healthy needs-based training and meeting topics.
    • Bring ideas and creativity that will help us plan out effective Summit and Quarterly Trainings
    • Be aware of pain points and needs of the HGSs
    • Be the go-between for the CLOs and HGLs, facilitate bi-directional communication of testimonies & pain points
    • If it fits with your gifting and margin, assist with Summit or Quarterly trainings
  • Engage in strategic follow up with HGLs for tasks, events, and ministry priorities
    • Based on current church direction, leadership can notify you what to follow up on and when to follow up
    • Remind HGLs to RSVP to events and meetings/trainings, fill out forms/quarterly reports, etc.
    • Coach HGLs on how to continually lead a successful home group
  • Gather testimonies and feedback from the HGLs and HG Members to help the leadership assess the health of the home group ministry
    • Always be listening to feedback, pain points, testimonies, etc. and share those things with CLOs
    • HGCs are the ones best positioned to understand the health of each HGL and their group

Ministry Involvement:

    • Have at least one year of experience being a leader, LIT, or host home in NSC’s home group ministry
    • Be currently involved in a home group
    • A current member (or going through that process) at New Song Church
  • Have a good understanding of, and advocate for, the structure and strategy of the Home Group Ministry
  • Maintain a life/lifestyle that honors the Lord

Community Life Overseer Job Description

Help create margin and capacity for the home group pastor by strategically taking on pastoral, administrative, organizational, authoritative, and training tasks according to each person’s gifting and ability, with a personal ministry focus on the Home Group Coaches.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Help create margin and capacity for the HGP by helping implement healthy structure and strategy according to gifting, capacity, and margin
  • Function as an Elder/Overseer over the home group ministry and its participants at all levels
  • IRDT Home Group Coaches
  • Pastor, equip, and empower the Home Group Coaches in their roles
  • Coordinate with HGCs to provide effective and healthy needs-based training and meeting agendas for HGLs
  • Be involved and invested in the purpose, mission, vision, and activities of New Song Church (including House of Prayer).
  • Maintain a life/lifestyle that honors the position of an Elder in the church

Details

  • Help create margin and capacity for the HGP by taking on tasks according to your gifting, capacity, and margin
  • Know your gifting, strengths, and ministry calling. Be proactive in taking on tasks that fit well with those things
  • Be proactive in identifying strengths and weaknesses of the home group ministry
  • Anticipate issues or pain points and come up with solutions to those things
  • Help ensure that the format of HG ministry fits in with and furthers the overall vision/mission of NSC

Have a good clear understanding of the how and why of NSC Home Group ministry and the quarterly rhythms. (Not sure where this goes but feel like they need to have a good understanding of how it runs.)

Associate Pastor – Youth Job Description

Middle School and High School – 25 hours per week
Livestream – 10 hours per week
Announcements and Creative Liaison – 5 hours per week

Role

The primary role of the Youth Pastor is to lead our students to become fully devoted followers of Jesus. The focus demographic for this position is all 6th-12th graders at NSC.

Responsibilities

  • “Helicopter 2” as a model for ministry: equip and empower volunteers to do the work of the ministry (Ephesians 4:12, 1 Peter 4:10). Do ministry through volunteers.
    • IRDT leaders, your job is to make sure your leaders are successful. If they are successful, you are successful, if they are unsuccessful, you are unsuccessful.
    • Function as a Coach to our Volunteer Middle School Ministry Leaders and release them to do the work of the ministry.
  • Steward weekly youth gatherings
    • Start on time, end on time and make sure the right stuff happens in the middle.
    • Worship, Bible teaching, groups, games
    • Meeting in the same place and at the same time weekly
    • Conduct environments that are conducive for the spiritual transformation of our students
    • Tuesdays & Wednesdays 630-8p at NSC
  • Develop an annual ministry calendar to include any retreats and special events.
    • Middle & High school youth group calendar to trace the Bellingham Public Schools calendar (no school, no youth gathering – unless otherwise agreed upon by MSD and LP)
  • Present in different local Middle and High Schools 2-3 hours per week looking for opportunities to start clubs and meet students.
  • Present on Monday and Wednesdays for staff meetings
  • Primary on preaching
  • Develop and steward annual ministry budget.
  • Create ministry SOP’s.
  • Administration
  • Primary on team communication
  • Conduct monthly leadership team meetings where ministry specific coaching is conducted.
  • Consistent communication with all parents of Middle and High School aged students at NSC with a personal invite to fall vision launch.
    • PCO information used for contact gathering.
  • Develop relationships with students.
  • Embody our Staff Behavioral Code and keep the fire for our organizational statements of mission/vision and values at the forefront of all you do
  • Develop a culture that nurtures both halves of the great commission: reach the lost and disciple the found.

Livestream Director

  • Helo 2 as a model of ministry, build the team.
    • IRDT Leaders with gift calling and passion for serving God’s Kingdom at the level of online ministry.
    • Make sure leaders are supported.
    • Do not be seen frequently as the technician in the chair operating livestream ministry during services, this is for volunteers.
  • Looking for your replacement.
  • Position active through end of 2023
  • Do scheduling for livestream ministry scheduled monthly.
  • Edit livestream clip for YouTube and post to our channel with series graphic overlay.
  • Present and active in leadership role every Sunday
  • Friday night livestream, great time to do scheduling or Q2 ministry stuff:
    • Line up meetings
    • Facilitate training.

Announcements on Sunday: The goal is for you to be on screen max 1x per month

Creative Liaison: Work with LP and 3rd party creative team to ensure excellent creative content is consistent on our social media and other media platforms.
