Strategic Ministry Coordinator Ministry Description

General Description

The Strategic Ministry Coordinator’s primary responsibility is to establish best practices in all areas of ministry at New Song Church. This position will help New Song Church create ministry teams that are “excellent and efficient” through evaluation, study, reporting and coaching ministry leaders and/or staff. This position will ensure we are excellent in all areas of ministry and help the church continually improve by 1%.

Essential Job Functions

  • Work closely with the Executive Pastor to identify the current area of ministry to work on, evaluate and to understand current state of the ministry (its leaders, history, potential areas of improvement).
  • Create an evaluation plan and bring this to the Executive Pastor for approval and execution.
  • Execute the evaluation plan through observation, interview of leadership and volunteers, ensure Helo-2/Eph 4/COACH is happening; review current job descriptions, understanding current organizational structure, how often are volunteers working, read/study this specific area of ministry to learn best practices, etc.). Basically, assess the health of the current ministry (and its leaders/volunteers) and have a basic understanding of what health/excellence would look like.
  • Create a report of findings that include where excellence is happening, as well as potential areas of improvement (training needs, assimilation/structure, leadership, giftings of current volunteers, morale, communication needs, care, books/podcasts/resources for leaders to study, etc.).
  • Share report via meeting with Executive Pastor with what was found and recommendations of improvement in ministry.
  • Be part of potential meetings with XP and staff ministry leader to go over report and potential action plan.
  • Be available as a resource for XP/staff when it comes to execution of action plan.
  • Be a resource for XP on the “business side” of church (leadership; HR; business; finance; insurance; strategy and execution; employee management).

This position will be supported by the Executive Pastor.

Lead Pastor Job Description

General Description

The Lead Pastor is the primary Spiritual and Vision Director of New Song Church and all its ministries. He is responsible for all work that affects whether New Song Church’s mission is successful. He is the “Extreme Ownership” person at New Song Church.

Responsibilities

Vision – Communication – Strategy

  • Prayer and Preaching of God’s Word: This is the priority and primary task of the LP. He is the primary communicator to the members/attenders of New Song Church.
  • Leadership Duties: The LP is the first chair leader at New Song Church. He is the primary coach of the staff team and the primary leader of the mission, vision and effectiveness of New Song Church.
    • Primary Leader of the Executive Team: This team is the “internal operations” management work horse responsible for all church administration and ministry.
    • Chair of the Elder Board: The governing board of the church.
    • Lead Teaching Pastor: Sets preaching schedule; develops/trains preachers; the LP is the primary teacher and communicator at New Song Church.
    • Primary Oversight of Mission: Creating a “this is who we are” culture. Ensuring we are “leading people to become fully devoted followers of Jesus” at all levels of our organization.
      • Responsible to identify, cultivate and champion our core identity/mission as a church and build systems, processes and plans to support it.
      • Primary strategist/delegator identifying “who is doing what, why and how this helps accomplish our strategic mission” – “Main Thing Focus”
      • Provides clarity over roles and how it aligns with our mission.
    • Staff and Leadership Development: IRDT new leaders and primary coach of current leadership (paid staff) team.
      • Ensures development, growth, discipleship and health of NSC ministries, staff members, church members and volunteers.
      • Works closely with XP to ensure vision, strategy, team, and action/results are excellent and effectiveness on all levels are happening (see LPXP PDF for further clarification of roles).
      • Embody our Staff Culture Code and keep the fire for our organizational statements of mission/vision and values at the forefront of all we do.
    • Primary Oversight of Pastoral Care for New Song Church: Responsible to develop and oversee effective pastoral care at all levels of ministry.

Kids Ministry Director Job Description

Role

The primary role of the Kids Ministry Director is to lead our children to become fully devoted followers of Jesus. The focus demographic for this position is Nursery-5th Graders.

Responsibilities

  • “Helicopter 2” as a model for ministry: equip and empower volunteers to do the work of the ministry (Ephesians 4:12, 1 Peter 4:10). Do ministry through volunteers.
    • IRDT leaders, your job is to make sure your leaders are successful. If they are successful, you are successful, if they are unsuccessful, you are unsuccessful.
    • Function as a Coach to our Volunteer Children’s Ministry Leaders and release them to do the work of the ministry.
  • Weekly scheduling of all classrooms for weekend services
  • Facilitate Orange Curriculum for all classrooms.
  • Steward classrooms
    • Start on time, end on time, and make sure the right stuff happens in the middle.
    • Worship, Bible teaching, groups, games
    • Create environments that are conducive for the spiritual transformation of our children.
    • Cleanliness and organization
  • Present on Wednesdays for staff meetings
  • Develop annual budget for Children’s Ministry
  • Create and ensure the effective operations of ministry specific SOPs across all age groups.
  • Conduct quarterly leadership team meetings where ministry specific coaching is conducted.
  • Assist parents in the discipleship of their children by:

House of Prayer Pastor Job Description

    • Development and growth of ministry
  • Oversight of all prayer ministry at NSC including after service prayer teams
  • Primary leader for all NSC worship and sound booth teams/operations/resources including PCO and slides.
  • Present at ‘all hands-on deck’ events called by the LP or XP. Ex: funerals, memorial services, special services/etc.
  • Pastoral care of attenders / members
    • Counseling / premarital / discipleship / classes / meetings & dinners / etc

Home Groups Pastor Job Description

Simple Description

Lead the home group ministry into an increasingly healthy structure and strategy where it can best help fulfill NSC’s vision to create thriving spiritual families, and NSC’s vision for home groups to develop meaningful relationships. Work directly with a personal ministry focus with the Community Life Overseers (CLO).

Primary Responsibilities

  • Establish overall home group ministry structure and strategy (the what and the how)
  • Work with CLO team to address issues, tweak structure and strategy, anticipate needs and solutions, create vision
  • Pastor, equip, empower CLO team
  • Works in partnership with Ruling Elders and Church Staff
  • Coordinates with NSC Church Calendar
  • Approves the yearly HG calendar (Quarterly HG Rhythm, Summit, CLO Meetings, HGL Meetings, etc.)
  • Oversee communication at all levels of the home group ministry
  • Compile data about Home Group Ministry to help facilitate direction and monitor health of the ministry
  • Be involved and invested in the purpose, mission, vision, and activities of New Song Church, including House of Prayer
  • Maintain a life/lifestyle that honors the position of an Elder in the church

Details

  • Establish overall home group ministry structure and strategy
    • Define the what and the how of the home group ministry

    • Utilize these leaders to ensure that you have the margin and capacity needed for your role
    • Have regular meetings to identify potential issues and create solutions before they become problems
    • Gather input from the CLOs to find out what is working, isn’t working, and measure health of HG Ministry
    • Regularly pray together to discern God’s will for the HG Ministry
  • Pastor, equip, empower CLO team
    • Make CLOs a personal ministry priority (COACH/Helo-2)
    • Consider how they need to be encouraged and equipped and train them well for their roles
    • Give responsibility to the CLOs according to their giftings, callings, and ministry hearts
  • Be the go-between for integration with Ruling Elders, Church Staff, etc.
    • Ensure coordination with the other NSC ministries, vision, and mission
    • Ensure information flow is bi-directional so that everyone is kept up to speed and informed
  • Establish yearly calendar (everything happening with trainings, summits and events around the HG Ministry)
  • Oversee communication to all levels of the home group ministry
    • Give specific follow up instructions to CLOs/Coaches (Most directives will stop at CLO level).
  • Compile data about Home Group Ministry to make a stewardship report to the elders/pastoral staff
    • Regular surveys of all leadership levels and HG members
    • Always ask for testimonies, feedback, pain points at all meetings/trainings
  • Be involved and invested in the purpose, mission, vision, and activities of New Song Church, including House of Prayer

Executive Pastor Job Description

General Description

The Executive Pastor is the Second in Command Officer at New Song Church to the Lead Pastor and is the link between values and implementation. Primary responsibilities include church management, staff management, and primary leadership with home groups and Sunday ministries. Duties include assimilation strategies, administration/CFO duties, strategic planning, operations, and staff direction, support and accountability on the individual level. The primary goal of the XP is to ensure NSC is organized, orderly, and excellence is present in all areas of NSC ministry. He will work closely with the LP to help develop, monitor and oversee complete ministry effectiveness.

Responsibilities

Ensure Coaching (moving the ball down the field); Care (personal and pastoral); Discipleship (spiritual development) is taking place with the primary leaders under the care of the XP (and that those leaders are doing the same for their leaders/teams (Helo-2 – Eph 4). Primary focus of XP will be staff, CLO’s, ministry leaders and directors.

Church Management

Staff Manager: The first chair leader of staff is the LP. The XP is a second chair leader/coach for the staff. Understand vision agreed by LP/Staff member then ensure staff member is clear, equipped, resourced, directed and positively progressing toward the agreed upon vision. Will work close with LP and staff to communicate metrics, feedback loops, and accountability in all areas of staff responsibility.

  • Measure Performance: How will we be successful? Create checkpoints for accountability and understand vision set by LP for each role.
  • Primary Point Person for Staff: Works closely with each staff member providing care, coaching and support (on the individual level).

Business and Administration: Primary leadership of the Executive Assistant to ensure all SOP’s are understood and followed, ministries are supported appropriately through office administration, and the business portion of the church is effective, organized, up-to-date, and excellent.

CFO: Legal and Finance: Primary leadership over payroll, HR, budget management, insurance, legalities, financial tracking/reporting, and all bookkeeping and accounting functions.

Ministry and Church Effectiveness: Processes and policy management, church calendar (staying ahead on events/dates), communication effectiveness (internal and external), metrics and feedback loops, Helo-2 effectiveness.

“Our House” Stewardship

Home Groups: The primary leader of our home group ministry. First chair leadership of our CLO team, create rhythms, processes, goals and metrics for this ministry to ensure health for current home group attenders, leaders and host homes as well as effective assimilation processes for new church attenders (close the back door).

Sunday Service Ministries: Primary leadership over ‘Sunday Service Ministries,’ making sure every ministry has excellent leadership, structure, metrics, training and rhythms in place as well as effective assimilation strategies to create opportunities for meaningful responsibilities at NSC.

Assimilation: Responsible for effective assimilation is in place so every new person can become a thriving spiritual family member at NSC. This includes: New to New Song; Membership; and other assimilation processes into home groups, community opportunities and serving at NSC.

Pastoral Functions

Preaching/Teaching: First line communicator for training and teaching opportunities for ministries under his stewardship. Weekend preaching as scheduled and directed by LP, primary preacher on Saturday Nights.

Counseling and Care: Available for pre-marital/marriage counseling; one x one discipleship, pastoral care.

Weekend Service Ministries: Strategy, Effectiveness, Trainings, Information, Metrics, Coaching and Development, Assimilation

Staff Led Ministries: KRA Management, Effectiveness support, vision implementation.

Assimilation: New Person, Meaningful Relationships (New to New Song), Meaningful Responsibilities (Through Community), Membership (Class), Thriving Spiritual Family Member
